ten cents and a gumball – D.e.e.L

a poem by D.e.e.L

she looks through the glass into the man’s eyes
his hands rubbing tears from his cheeks
the register of the store sprung open

a rich man walks away from the store
two hundred dollars in his pocket
a rich man eats tonight
a poor man sheds tears

she taps on the glass and the man brushes her away
a swing of his hand
but she stays
tapping the glass until he rises up from his despair
he lets her in and she grabs around his waist

her hug raises his spirits and he pats her head
she looks up at him and smiles
she hands him all the money she has
he thanks her
